June First was officially M Bird Studio’s one year anniversary! Can you believe it? What a bizarre, awesome, ridiculous, amazing journey it’s been so far. We can hardly believe we’re still alive
We decided to celebrate by throwing a party for family and friends, inspired by Prohibition (no, silly, the SPEAKEASY part, not the not the temperance part!) complete with palm trees, cupcakes, a secret password, and whiskey.
In honor of this momentous occasion we’ve compiled a list, which may or may not be helpful to those of your starting your own ventures this year:
1) Expect the unexpected.
This goes without saying I guess, but should be noted, as it applies to all things great and small – from stubbing your toe to parenthood.
2) NEVER leave the house without Gorrilla Glue, wire cutters, post-it notes, a pencil, and a cordless drill.
Seriously. It’s amazing the feats you can accomplish with these things.
3) Everyone has something to say.
Which means that the best thing to do most of the time is listen.
4) “To Network” is really just a fancy way of getting to know someone.
We’ve met so many amazing people, from clients, to artists, musicians, local business owners, to traveling salespeople in this short time. Each one of them has taught us something, large or small, and we’ve been incredibly blessed to have a constant flow of people in the salon. We get to meet new people every day, and with a little bit of conversation, it’s incredible what you can learn about, or from someone.
5) Josh H. has what it takes.
This simple sentence was the extent of Josh’s letter of interest to us last year. It was direct enough to catch our attention, and after meeting him we were won over by his mad skills and Virginia charm. We have a great team of stylists, and Josh has been with us almost since the beginning. So Happy Anniversary to him as well – He definitely has what it takes to keep a special place in our hearts!
