Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Lots of things have been happening here at M Bird Studio, but don’t worry – we’re still the same art-loving, scissor-wielding, Davines-obsessed group we’ve always been.  Some notable blips on the radar:
We’re growing!
This month we welcome three new staff members: Allison, Joshua, and Kyle.

Allison is a color corrections specialist and has experience with event styling, having created dramatic makeover looks for the Style Network.  Her down-to-earth nature and educational approach with her clients has proven to be a fantastic addition to our team.

After finishing a stint in the Bay Area, Joshua is returning to Los Angeles to join us – he cuts and colors, and has a wide range of training from Sebastian to Aveda. We are crazy excited to have both of these talented stylists here!

Kyle will be taking on the front desk duties, and he’ll win you over in a heartbeat.  Maybe if you’re lucky he’ll break out into a song or two for you

Also, we’ve just gotten a brand new family of Davines products in: The SU line, for the care and nourishment of sun-exposed hair.  For all you beach babies out there, this line’s for you!  We’ll be announcing special packages on our Facebook page, so stay tuned.

That’s the story folks!  Slowly but surely, we’re growing up

June First was officially M Bird Studio’s one year anniversary!  Can you believe it?  What a bizarre, awesome, ridiculous, amazing journey it’s been so far.  We can hardly believe we’re still alive   We decided to celebrate by throwing a party for family and friends, inspired by Prohibition (no, silly, the SPEAKEASY part, not the not the temperance part!) complete with palm trees, cupcakes, a secret password, and whiskey.

In honor of this momentous occasion we’ve compiled a list, which may or may not be helpful to those of your starting your own ventures this year:

1) Expect the unexpected.
This goes without saying I guess, but should be noted, as it applies to all things great and small – from stubbing your toe to parenthood.

2) NEVER leave the house without Gorrilla Glue, wire cutters, post-it notes, a pencil, and a cordless drill.
Seriously. It’s amazing the feats you can accomplish with these things.

3) Everyone has something to say.
Which means that the best thing to do most of the time is listen.

4) “To Network” is really just a fancy way of getting to know someone.
We’ve met so many amazing people, from clients, to artists, musicians, local business owners, to traveling salespeople in this short time. Each one of them has taught us something, large or small, and we’ve been incredibly blessed to have a constant flow of people in the salon. We get to meet new people every day, and with a little bit of conversation, it’s incredible what you can learn about, or from someone.

5) Josh H. has what it takes. 
This simple sentence was the extent of Josh’s letter of interest to us last year. It was direct enough to catch our attention, and after meeting him we were won over by his mad skills and Virginia charm. We have a great team of stylists, and Josh has been with us almost since the beginning. So Happy Anniversary to him as well – He definitely has what it takes to keep a special place in our hearts!

This Mother’s Day, M Bird Studio is proud to be hosting My Beauty’s Vintage Glam Soiree!  My Beauty is a non-profit group that works tirelessly to educate, empower, and motivate girls aged 10-17.  Founder Gabrielle Thomas and her amazing team (seriously folks, these are some truly inspirational women!) will be here with Gourmet Tea Tasting,  A Modern Vintage Fashion Show, Mini Manis, and more.  Check out the flyer below, and visit their website mybeautyiswithin.com for tickets!

We are very excited to announce that GloMinerals Makeup has arrived at M Bird Studio!  As always, we will be offering full makeup services for brides, events, or a special night on the town.  In addition, a small selection of GloMinerals makeup will be available for purchase.  And just in case you’re wondering, here’s why we’ve fallen in love with the line:

Just so you can get a little taste of the man behind the mask. Davines Mask Color, that is! Sorry, I HAD to throw it in there. Corny jokes aside though, Davines has just released this video of Artistic Director Angelo Seminara discussing the flamboyage technique, and his new color collection, Flamboyance Diva. Check it out!

We are beside ourselves with adoration for this fantastic new color technique.  Invented by Davines Artistic Director and two-time British Hairdresser of the Year Angelo Seminara, this innovative approach to color has completely changed the way we work with hair.

What is it? The short explanation goes like this:
A long strip, called a Flamboyage meche is applied to the hair
Magic happens
The client walks away with a gorgeous, natural, looks-like-she-was-born-with-it highlight!

Seriously.

We’ve had rave reviews so far and we’re all very excited about it.  It’s perfect for a natural looking highlight for summer, but it can also be done with vivid and nontraditional colors.  Mostly, it allows our stylists and clients maximum creative freedom, which makes it a must-try for almost anyone interested in color.

This month, in honor of Valentine’s Day (I know, I knowwww) we welcome a very special, limited-edition scent from Davines!  With notes of lavender, black currant, and mint, this unisex scent has all of us swooning.
